Having a child with an eating disorder can be a confusing, scary, difficult, and sometimes lonely journey. As eating disorder practitioners, we walk this road with kids and their parents every day. Which is why we designed this one-day workshop to inform, equip and encourage parents of children and teens who are struggling with an eating disorder.

We want you to feel more confident in supporting and caring for your kiddo in their recovery, because you have immense power to help them heal.

And if you’re co-parenting, coming to this workshop together will help you get on the same page so that you can have a united approach in helping your child.

In our time together you will learn more about:

  • Important information about eating disorders from an emotional and nutritional perspective, as well as understanding types of treatment
  • What your role as a parent is and isn’t in your child’s recovery
  • Practical strategies for helping your child, including how to handle meals and snacks, what to say and not say, etc.
  • Healthy boundaries so that you’re not over- or under-involved
  • How to model a positive relationship with food and your body for your child
  • Tips and tools for taking care of yourself during this challenging journey
  • PLUS, we’ll have a Q&A time, and give you suggested next steps and resources to check out

You are your child’s best advocate and support in their recovery. Empowering yourself is one of the most important things you can do for your child.

9 – 10am: Eating Disorders from an Emotional and Nutritional Perspective (Types of Eating Disorders, What Causes Eating Disorders, How Eating Disorders Affect Your Child Inside & Out)

10 – 11am: Understanding Eating Disorder Treatment (Levels of Care, Building a Treatment Team, Researched Best-Practices, Goals for Recovery)

11am – 12pm: Helping Your Child Get Nourished (Knowing What Your Child Needs, Planning/Prepping, Handling Meals and Snacks)

11am – 11:30am: Lunch

11:30-12:30pm: Modeling a Healthy Relationship with Food and Your Body / Taking Care of Yourself (Challenging Diet Culture, Learning Intuitive Eating, and Practicing Self-Compassion and Care)

12:30pm – 1:30pm: How To Handle Difficult Situations with Your Child (Caregiver Guidelines, Communication Strategies, & How to Stay Calm)

1:30pm – 2:00pm: Q&A time
